The Ibrahim Sub-Clan of the larger Muqabul Clan has endorsed Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed Abdi as its sole candidate for the Wajir South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

The endorsement followed consultations by community elders, in what they described as an effort to build consensus and strengthen unity ahead of the elections.

The move comes against the backdrop of negotiated democracy, a political practice that has been used in Northern Kenya to facilitate community consultations and consensus-building around elective positions.

Speaking after the endorsement, Deputy Governor Muhumed thanked the Ibrahim community for the confidence and trust placed in him.

“I am deeply humbled by this endorsement. I accept the responsibility with humility, commitment and a strong sense of duty. I thank the Ibrahim family for believing in me and for standing together in unity,” Muhumed said.

The chairman of the Ibrahim elders of the larger Muqabul Clan said the endorsement followed extensive consultations among community members.

“We have consulted widely and reached a consensus to support Ahmed Muhumed. This is about unity, responsibility and presenting one voice as a community,” the chairman said.

The endorsement now places Muhumed among the leaders positioning themselves for the Wajir South parliamentary race ahead of the 2027 General Election. Muhumed is currently serving as Wajir County Deputy Governor.
