Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale is set to appear before the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in the afternoon to address concerns surrounding Ebola preparedness and provide lawmakers with what Parliament says will be verified information on the matter.
This was after Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, during the House sitting on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, raised concerns over what he described as inadequate official communication from the government amid growing public debate and reports circulating on various platforms.
“Mr Speaker, there is this issue of Ebola in the country and a lot of issues have been raised about it, quarantine facilities in different parts of the country, but as a House we don’t have clear information from the Executive on how the matter began and what is happening, what’s the plan and the way forward,” Junet told the House.
“I was seeking your indulgence if you can summon the CS for Health to appear before the House so that he can explain and give the correct information to the representatives of the people so that we can disseminate the right information to the people,” he added.
In response, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said the matter had already been brought to his attention by the Health Committee and the House Business Committee, prompting the decision to summon the Cabinet Secretary.
“Members, I was visited in my chamber by the Chair for Health, Hon. Dr Nyikal, who sought direction on this matter and wanted to deal with the matter in the committee. The matter was also raised in the House Business Committee,” Wetang’ula said.
“And I have directed that tomorrow at 2.45 pm we will have the Minister for Health, the Honourable Duale, in the House for strictly one hour and have instructed the Majority Leader to communicate with the Honourable Duale to be in Parliament not later than 2.30 so that at 2.45 we give him one hour and members with concerns will make their interventions after he gives a statement to the House,” he added.
Duale is expected to brief MPs on Kenya’s preparedness to handle infectious disease outbreaks and respond to questions regarding reports of a proposed Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia County.
The summons comes amid heightened public debate over a reported Kenya-US arrangement involving the quarantine of individuals exposed to the Ebola Bundibugyo virus. The issue has sparked protests, legal challenges and calls for greater transparency from government officials.
The appearance before Parliament is expected to provide lawmakers and the public with an official government position on the matter and clarify measures being undertaken to safeguard public health.
