FKF postpones 3 league matches over transport disruptions affecting clubs’ training sessions

The Football Kenya Federation has postponed three FKF Premier League matches that were scheduled for Wednesday following disruptions caused by the ongoing nationwide matatu strike.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 the federation said several clubs had raised concerns over their inability to train and travel due to the transport paralysis that has affected movement across the country since Monday.

“Our attention is drawn to the ongoing nationwide matatu strike and the impact that this has on general mobility,” FKF said in the statement.

“Having received valid concerns from clubs over their inability to attend training session for the past two days and the uncertainty surrounding the league matches scheduled for tomorrow, we wish to notify you that the below matches scheduled to be played on Wednesday, 20th May 2026 have been cancelled,” the statement added.

The affected fixtures are Kenya Police FC versus Kariobangi Sharks, Ulinzi Stars against Tusker FC, and Sofapaka FC versus KCB FC.

FKF said the postponed matches will now be played on Wednesday, May 27, at the same venues and kick-off times.

However, the federation confirmed that the match between Bandari FC and APS Bomet FC in Kwale will proceed as scheduled.

The postponements come at a crucial stage of the FKF Premier League season, with clubs having played 32 matches and only two rounds remaining.

Gor Mahia currently lead the standings with 68 points, four ahead of rivals AFC Leopards on 64 points.

The nationwide transport strike began at midnight on Monday, May 18, after the Transport Sector Alliance called for industrial action in protest against rising fuel prices and taxation.

The strike disrupted operations of matatus, trucks, boda bodas and private vehicles across the country.

However, the matatu strike has now been suspended for seven days to allow negotiations between the government and transport stakeholders.
