Man stabbed to death during UDA grassroots elections

A man was stabbed to death during a clash between rival groups in United Democratic Alliance (UDA)  grassroots elections in Kayole, Nairobi.

According to the police, the victim was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital on Saturday May 4, 2024 at night with stab wounds on the chest.

Officials at the hospital reported that the victim died on arrival at the facility as a result of excess bleeding.

Eyewitnesses told police that the man was stabbed during an argument as a result of political differences during UDA grassroots elections at Rasta Stage.

Meanwhile, police have arrested two suspects in connection to the matter, as they continue with investigations.

The incident comes a few days after the ruling party, UDA, kicked off its grassroots elections on April 26, 2024 to pick officials at the County level.

Phase one of UDA party elections took place in five counties of Nairobi, West Pokot, Homabay, Busia, and Narok.

Initially, UDA National Elections Board (NEB) chairperson Eng. Antony Mwaura had assured party members that the election will be purely electronic.

Mwaura also allayed any fears of election malpractice, noting that the process will be free, fair, credible, and verifiable.
