A phone repair shop in Kisii town has been exposed as a front for a sophisticated phone theft and hacking operation, after detectives from DCI Kisii Central teamed up with fraud investigators from Mogo Auto Ltd to raid the premises and arrest two suspects.
The team descended on a shop at Market Plaza, catching Duncan Ontita Anyaga and Phares Nyagaka Luke off guard.
What they found inside told the story of a well-organised racket, over 500 assorted mobile phones and motherboards stashed away, among them several Mogo-financed Tecno KM4 handsets that had previously been reported missing, stripped of their security locks and ready for resale.
The two suspects are in custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment as detectives finalise the investigation.
The DCI said it remains committed to dismantling fraud networks targeting financed mobile phones and will continue working with partners to disrupt the theft, unlawful unlocking, and illegal resale of such devices.
