Police in Kisumu County have arrested a key suspect linked to a robbery with violence incident in Chiga, Kisumu East Sub-County, in an operation that also led to the recovery of a motorcycle believed to have been used during the suspect’s escape.
According to a statement issued by the National Police Service, the arrest followed intelligence shared by members of the public, prompting officers from Chiga Police Station to launch a swift tactical operation early in the morning.
Authorities said the suspect was tracked to his home in Kamrongo Village, Chiga Sub-Location, where he was apprehended without incident.
“Following a reliable tip-off and a swift tactical operation launched early this morning, officers from Chiga Police Station tracked down and arrested the suspect at his home in Kamrongo Village, Chiga Sub-Location,” the police said in the statement.
During the operation, officers recovered a red Honda 125 motorcycle bearing registration number KMGK 052P, which investigators believe was used by the suspect to flee the scene after the robbery.
“During the arrest, the officers recovered a red Honda 125 motorcycle believed to have been used to escape from the scene of the robbery,” the statement added.
The suspect has since been escorted to the police station, where he remains in custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The recovered motorcycle has been secured as an exhibit as investigations continue.
The police praised residents for cooperating with law enforcement, noting that community intelligence played a vital role in the successful operation.
“The National Police Service commends the residents of the area for providing information that led to the successful recovery and arrest,” police stated.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling crime through close collaboration with the public and urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station, emergency lines, or confidential reporting channels.
