Police laud heroic guard who foiled armed robbery on forex bureau

Police in Uganda are applauding a private security guard identified as Odongo Moses, who foiled an armed robbery attempt last Friday (March 15).

On the fateful day at around 1 am, two robbers — armed with AK47 rifles — raided his place of work at Tonix Forex Bureau in Nakawa area.

“The guard who was brave and alert on duty, when he fired two shots at two thugs who were vandalizing a Pajero motor vehicle under registration number, UBK 519C, in front of his beat. They fled the scene on their getaway motorcycle,” Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says.

But the thugs could not believe that they have been outwitted by a single guard, returning with a third member of their gang.

“The guard opened fire at them, and injured the rider and the second suspect with a bag, containing the gun. The 3rd suspect fled from the scene,” Enanga adds.

Officers from Kira Road Central Police Station responded to the distress calls and recovered an AK 47 riffle loaded with 8 bullets.

The police officers also impounded the getaway motorcycle (of Bajaj Boxer model) that was used by the thugs.

Preliminary investigations have revealed the identity of the suspects as; Kibuuka Lawrence, of Mpererwe, who was armed with a gun and Musekule Ivan, the boda boda rider.

“The security guard did a [commendable] job, by disabling the thugs, which foiled the robbery, and also led to the recovery of an AK 47 riffle. We also want to applaud the company, for his level of bravery, tact and skill. His quick reaction saved a robbery and loss to the Forex bureau, plus any other lives that could have been affected during the robbery.”
