Police in Laikipia County have intensified the crackdown on illicit brew following a raid on a suspected chang’aa brewing den along the Kangaitha River in Nanyuki.

In a statement shared on its X account on Saturday, August 15, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Nanyuki Police Station acted on information provided by members of the public to disrupt the illegal operation.

During the operation, police recovered 63 twenty-litre plastic containers filled with kangara, bringing the total amount of illicit brew seized to approximately 1,260 litres.

The NPS said the raid demonstrates the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities in tackling illegal activities.

“Members of the public play a crucial role by sharing information that enables police to identify and disrupt illegal brewing operations,” the service stated.

Authorities said the crackdown will continue across the country as security agencies seek to prevent the production and distribution of illicit alcohol, which poses risks to public safety and community health.

The police service further called on Kenyans to remain alert and report suspected criminal or suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

“Through sustained enforcement and strong community partnerships, the fight against illicit alcohol will be tackled at its source,” the NPS said.

The latest operation comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to dismantle illicit brewing networks, particularly through intelligence-led operations supported by information from the public.

The NPS encouraged members of the public with information on illegal activities to report it through emergency numbers 999 and 911 or the DCI’s Fichua Kwa DCI platform.
