President William Ruto arrives in Kazakhstan for a two-day official State Visit

President William Ruto arrived in Kazakhstan, on Tuesday 19th May, 2026, for a two-day official State Visit.

This visit happened at the same time as when there was a nationwide strike in Kenya’s transportation sector, which lasted two days but ended after the transport stakeholders met with government officials to resolve the issue.

In a statement on the president’s social media pages, he stated that he was going to Kazakhstan to see how the two countries could work together in their mutual interests for many key industries.

The Head of State is in the Central Asian country to explore deeper bilateral ties in sectors such as Finance, Tourism, ICT and Energy.

“Kenya and Kazakhstan have been planting seeds of friendship for over a decade through series of deliberate engagements. It is time to take these cordial relations to the next level. Our trade ties are already blossoming in tea, flowers, fertilizer, and logistics, with a growing direct connection between Nairobi and Astana, as well as other countries in Central Asia,” he said.

Ruto also stated that they plan to use this friendship to create new opportunities in the areas of finance, information technology, tourism, and energy as well as establish exchange programs between the two countries

“We are committed to building on this foundation by exploring new opportunities in finance, ICT, tourism, energy, and exchange programmes, with the overriding goal of fostering job creation, skills transfer, as well as expanding and opening new markets for our goods.”
