Detectives from the Land Fraud Investigations Unit have arrested a woman suspected of fraudulently acquiring and selling a parcel of land belonging to a deceased man’s estate without the knowledge or consent of his family.
Agnes Wairimu Gachanja was arrested on August 19, 2026, in Ruiru, where she had appeared for a defence hearing in a separate land fraud case also under investigation by the same unit.
The case was brought forward by two siblings who serve as administrators of their late father’s estate following his death in 2008.
During an official search at the Thika Land Registry as part of the succession process, the complainants discovered that a parcel of land measuring approximately 0.0825 hectares in Juja Farm had been transferred to an unknown individual without their knowledge.
Investigations by the LFIU established that the parcel had subsequently been sold for KSh 800,000.
The Director of Public Prosecutions reviewed the case and approved charges against Gachanja on three counts, conspiracy to defraud, uttering false documents, and intermeddling with the property of a deceased person.
Gachanja is scheduled to appear before the Ruiru Law Courts today, August 20, 2026, to face the charges.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals who unlawfully seize, transfer, or dispose of properties belonging to deceased estates, urging the public to report land fraud anonymously through #FichuaKwaDCI, by calling 0800 722 203 toll-free, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
