Linda Mwananchi Movement Party leader Edwin Sifuna has taken his presidential campaign to Kwale County, calling on opposition leaders to unite behind a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
A day after the movement was rebranded as a political party and its Nairobi headquarters officially opened, Sifuna led a brigade of opposition leaders in political rallies across Samburu, Kinango, Kwale and Ukunda towns, where calls for opposition unity dominated the meetings.
Sifuna described the Kenya Kwanza administration as oppressive, accusing it of disregarding the Constitution and the rule of law.
He claimed that President Ruto had lost the confidence of Kenyans and was no longer enjoying the support he had when he took office.
“When you look at the country right now, there is nowhere William Ruto has votes. Kenyans have lost faith in him, and they are now ready to send him home” he said.
The leaders cautioned against divisions within the opposition, warning that failure to rally behind one presidential candidate could give the ruling party an advantage in the 2027 contest.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino challenged opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i, to set aside their individual ambitions and agree on a single candidate.
“Look for Gachagua, Kalonzo, Matiang’i and all the other leaders. Agree on one candidate and put all our votes in one basket because united we stand, divided we fall,” said Babu.
Trans Nzoia county government George Nambeya expressed confidence that the opposition would secure victory, insisting that this time the coalition would have sufficient safeguards to establish its electoral strength even before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declares the presidential winner.
“Before IEBC announces the winner, we will already know how many votes our presidential candidate has. This time round, we are not going to the Supreme Court,” he said.
