Police officers in Siaya County have arrested one suspect and seized a large quantity of illicit alcohol during an operation aimed at curbing the manufacture and distribution of illegal brews.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on its official X account on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the intelligence-led operation was conducted by officers attached to Yala Police Station in Marenyo Village, Gem Yala.
During the raid, officers recovered 50 litres of Chang’aa and 120 litres of Kangara, alongside equipment believed to have been used in the production of the illegal liquor.
“During a successful operation by police officers from Yala Police Station in Marenyo Village, one suspect was arrested and found in possession of 50 litres of Chang’aa, 120 litres of Kangara, and various apparatus used in the manufacture of illicit alcohol,” the statement read.
The police said all the recovered items have been secured as exhibits while the suspect remains in custody awaiting arraignment in court.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to eliminate the production, sale and consumption of illicit brews, which authorities say continue to pose serious risks to public health and security.
“Targeted and intelligence-led operations against the production, distribution and consumption of illicit brews continue in Siaya County,” NPS stated.
The service also appealed to members of the public to support the fight against illegal activities by sharing information with security agencies through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely information on criminal activities,” the statement added.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating illicit alcohol and other harmful substances, saying the crackdown is aimed at safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of citizens across the country.
