Tanzanian thieves arrested after being tracked down by AirPods they stole

Two notorious Tanzanian thieves, who are behind a spate of thefts in Zimbabwe, have been arrested after police used a pair of AirPods they stole to track them down.

Malaji Arabi Saidi and Shimdavala Mohamedi Shomari were traced to a lodge in Eastlea — a suburb in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare — where they had set base.

According to Crime Watch Zimbabwe, police recovered four laptops, five laptop chargers, three wrist watches, WiFi dongles, AirPods, and an iPad. They also recovered three gate remotes which they reportedly used to jam the car central locking systems.

So what happened?

A court in Harare heard that on March 14, 2024, Saidi and Shomari broke into a car parked along George Silundika Avenue by one Tapiwa December Chingozho.

“A few minutes later, his iPhone 15 notified him that his iPad has left his car and was disconnected from his phone. He didn’t file a police report immediately,” Crime Watch Zimbabwe reports.

But in a dramatic turn of events, Chingozho went shopping at a popular shopping center in Harare, coincidentally the duo struck again!

Upon returning to his car, Chingozho discovered that his AirPods had been stolen. This is when he decided to file a police report immediately.

The next day when Chingozho was in Eastlea, he discovered that his AirPods were connecting to his phone. He informed the police who swung to action and arrested the suspects.
