Bungoma governor warns persons with disabilities against selling their wheelchairs

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has warned People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) against selling wheelchairs donated to them.

Lusaka warned that those found selling their donated wheelchairs will be charged in a court of law.

The Bungoma governor made the remarks on Tuesday March 26, 2024 when he flagged off the second phase of wheelchairs distribution in the county.

He disclosed that some beneficiaries of the county initiative were selling the wheelchairs for as low as Ksh2000.

“The wheelchair is more than Ksh50,000 but you go and sell it at Sh2,000. I will not spare you if you are found,” Lusaka warned.

During the event, 120 persons with disabilities received wheelchairs from the Bungoma County government in partnership with Walkabout Foundation.

At the same time, the Bungoma governor explained that his government in collaboration with the national government and other development partners were committed to uplifting the living standards of persons living with disabilities.

He also emphasized the need for all PWDs in the country to get wheelchairs, adding it will help beneficiaries move easily during their daily activities.

“As we walk the talk on empowering PWDs, I want to acknowledge the immense cooperation by our esteemed partners, the Walkabout Foundation,” he stated.

“Disability is not inability. Persons enabled differently have a significant impact on our county matters and should be embraced,” he added.
