Tributes pour in following the death of Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka, Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Nairobi Hospital

Condolences and tributes continue to pour in following the death of veteran obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka.

The former Director, and Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Nairobi Hospital. Dr. Obwaka died Friday evening May 1, 2026, his family confirmed. He was 83 years old.

Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale has issued a statement on behalf of the Ministry of Health mourning the veteran doctor. “On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I convey deep sorrow following the passing of Dr. Job Obwaka at the age of 83, a veteran obstetrician and former Director at the Nairobi Hospital,” Duale said.

Duale praised Dr. Obwaka’s lifelong service and leadership saying “Dr. Obwaka devoted his life to advancing medical practice in Kenya, leaving an invaluable contribution to the medical fraternity through his clinical excellence, leadership and mentorship of generations of practitioners.”

The CS noted his significant impact on standards of care and maternal and reproductive health outcomes across the country, while extending heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and the medical community.

Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka said he is “deeply saddened” by the passing of the respected medical leader.

On his part DCP party Leader Rigathi Gachagua mourned Dr. Obwaka saying ” I join you in mourning a man of great resolve, a just and principled son of our motherland, and an intellectual par excellence who devoted his life to saving human life and standing for truth.”

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) also honoured “the life and service of Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka,” recognising his dedicated contributions to the profession.

Dr. Obwaka was known for decades of clinical excellence, institutional leadership, and mentorship within Kenya’s healthcare sector.
