Two missing as raging floods sweep away MCA’s Toyota Prado in Isiolo

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Isiolo County to find two people whose vehicle was swept away by raging floods on Friday, April 18 evening.

Police say that three were travelling in a Toyota Prado of Reg. No KCC 242N when the tragedy struck.

According to the vehicles owner, David Lemantile, who is also a Member of County Assembly (MCA), the three occupants were swept away by raging flood waters at KMC Bridge while trying to cross.

Officers from Isiolo Police Station visited the scene of the accident and established that the vehicle was enroute to Isiolo from Kipsing area.

The three occupants have since been identified as Paul Gitonga, the driver, 23-year-old Rajuel Lemantile and 22-year-old Boniface Muriungi.

A police report says that Muriungi managed to escape unhurt through the window of the ill-fated vehicle, while the other two are still missing.

“The vehicle was swept away for about 2 Kms and has been recovered badly damaged,” the report adds.
