14 arrested, thousands of litres of illicit brew and drugs seizes during police crackdown

A series of coordinated police operations across six counties have resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of thousands of litres of illicit brew alongside significant quantities of drugs.

Authorities say this is part of a sustained push to dismantle illegal supply chains and protect communities from substance abuse.

In Meru County, officers raided the Kaguma area in Gaitu East Location within Imenti Central Sub-County, seizing approximately 1,700 litres of illicit brew locally known as mugacha.

One suspect was arrested and taken to Gaitu Police Station pending arraignment.

Bungoma County recorded some of the largest recoveries of the operation.

In Chemogee Sub-location, one suspect was arrested and 20 litres of busaa confiscated.

A separate crackdown in Mayanya Vitunguu, conducted with the support of National Government Administration Officers, led to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of 6,430 litres of kangara and 62 litres of chang’aa.

In Nyamira County, a multi-agency team raided Miti Mbili Village and arrested two suspects, recovering 20 litres of a substance suspected to be chang’aa stored in a yellow jerrican.

Kiambu County officers on mobile patrol arrested one suspect found carrying 24 rolls of cannabis along with rolling papers, a pair of scissors, and a rolling flag, items that pointed to active drug distribution.

In Murang’a County, officers from Kabati Police Station recovered 35 rolls of cannabis sativa. The suspect was arrested, charged, and the exhibits preserved for analysis by the Government Chemist.

Nairobi also recorded an arrest, with one suspect found in possession of 80 rolls of bhang, highlighting the reach of narcotics networks in urban areas.

Authorities say the scale of the recoveries highlights both the severity of the problem and the resolve of law enforcement to address it, adding that continued community cooperation remains essential in sustaining the gains made.
