Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that next year’s General Election will be a contest of performance and delivery, expressing confidence that President William Ruto’s development record will be his strongest campaign tool.
Speaking during the launch of the Magaoni-Masindeni Primary Schools Last Mile Electricity Supply projects in Msambweni Constituency on Tuesday May 26, 2026, Kindiki said the Kenya Kwanza administration was focused on transforming livelihoods through infrastructure, electricity connectivity, markets, and the blue economy.
“Next year’s general election is a simple contest between performance and delivery against empty rhetoric, propaganda and division,” Kindiki said.
Taking a direct swipe at the opposition, the DP argued that those now criticising the government had previously held senior government positions without much to show for it.
“Those in opposition lecturing us now on how best to run the affairs of the country are not angels who have just fallen from the skies. They occupied high positions in government, including the position I currently occupy. They have nothing to show for their time in office,” he charged.
On development, Kindiki disclosed that the government had allocated Ksh 1.8 billion to connect an additional 15,300 households in Kwale County to the national grid, with the Ksh 256 million Msambweni Last Mile project alone set to benefit over 2,500 households across 31 villages.
The Deputy President also highlighted the government’s investment in the blue economy, pointing to the construction of the KSh 2.6 billion Shimoni Fish Port, which he described as the largest fish port in East Africa, and plans to equip fishermen with modern vessels for deep-sea fishing.
On other commitments, Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s resolve to resolve longstanding land disputes at the Coast through the issuance of title deeds, and noted that discriminatory vetting processes for ID cards and birth certificates had been abolished, insisting that all Kenyans deserved equal treatment regardless of religion or ethnicity.
He also assured Kenyans that the 2027 elections would be free and fair, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) mandated to safeguard the will of voters.
