700 litres of chang’aa worth KSh 175,000 seized in Busia, suspect arrested

Detectives from DCI Busia and Teso South, working alongside Kenya Police Service officers from Adungosi Police Station, have seized 700 litres of chang’aa and arrested a suspect following a patrol operation in the Bondeni area of Teso South Sub-County.

Officers flagged down a speeding Toyota Probox, registration number KDB 387M, driven by Brian Wandera Aroge, 43.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 35 jerricans each with a capacity of 20 litres, all containing chang’aa, with an estimated street value of Ksh 175,000.

Aroge was escorted to Adungosi Police Station alongside the vehicle and the recovered consignment, where he is undergoing processing pending arraignment.

In a similar operation, a multi-agency security team at the Busia One-Stop Border Post yesterday intercepted suspected narcotics hidden inside a Nairobi-bound passenger bus on August 5, 2026.

Officers recovered 164 suspected narcotic pellets from one of the luggage compartments following a thorough search of the vehicle.

The bus driver was arrested and is being held in custody pending arraignment. However, another suspect who was on board managed to flee, prompting police to launch an immediate manhunt.

The suspected narcotics and the bus have been detained as exhibits pending forensic analysis and further investigations.

The DCI reiterated its commitment to fighting the manufacture, transportation, and distribution of illicit brews, urging the public to continue sharing information to help keep communities safe.
