Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has sharply criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his remarks regarding the recently concluded Africa Forward Summit co-hosted by the Kenyan and French governments.
In a strongly worded statement shared on her X account on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Wahome accused Gachagua of undermining Kenya’s international image and attacking global leaders without justification.
“The Hon Rigathi Gachagua former Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, your recent criticism of the Government propelled by disbelief that H.E Dr William Ruto the President of the Republic of Kenya was able to host over 30 Heads of States and Governments has exposed you badly,” Wahome wrote.
She went on to describe the former Deputy President as “a walking time bomb,” warning that his continued attacks against President William Ruto would ultimately backfire.
“You will blow yourself and your team in an attempt to reach H.E Ruto. And make no mistake. That is an impossible mission,” she added.
Wahome further faulted Gachagua for dragging international leaders into local political disputes, particularly after he criticised both António Guterres and Emmanuel Macron in his recent press briefing.
“You criticize UN Secretary General and President Macron in one statement and then tell us you are taking us Kenyans somewhere. Apana!” Wahome stated.
Her remarks followed a press conference held by Gachagua in Nairobi on Tuesday, May 12, where he alleged that Kenyan taxpayers stood to lose billions following the cancellation of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road upgrade project, which had reportedly been awarded to French firms under a public-private partnership arrangement.
“Mr Macron, you are an accomplice in the KSh7 billion payout from the people of Kenya linked to the cancelled Rironi-Mau Summit Road contract,” Gachagua claimed.
He also accused President Ruto’s administration of undermining democracy and human rights.
“Mr Guterres, be informed that President William Ruto is the greatest threat to Kenyan democracy and human rights violations,” he said.
Gachagua further alleged that Kenya had become “a global hub for abductions and human trafficking,” claiming asylum seekers and foreign nationals were increasingly becoming victims of transnational repression.
The exchange adds to the growing political tensions between leaders allied to President Ruto and the former Deputy President, whose criticism of the government has intensified in recent months.
