Former AFC Leopards sharpshooter Boniface Ambani has officially taken over as chairman of the club, following his victory in elections held on Sunday, June 29, 2025. He succeeds Dan Shikanda.
Shikanda formally handed over the instruments of power to Ambani earlier today at the club’s headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
The new leadership, with Ambani at the helm, Isaac Mulanda Mulindi as Secretary General, and Newton Lime as Treasurer, is set to steer Ingwe for the next four years. They take over from the outgoing officials, including Dan Shikanda, Irene Walusaga (who served as interim Secretary General), and Oliver Napali (outgoing treasurer).
Ambani has expressed his commitment to elevating AFC Leopards to international prominence, vowing to see the club compete effectively with other African football giants.
“This club is an international team, not a local one. The way we are treating this team is as though we are a local club. So, we just need to overhaul it, bring in fresh blood, and incorporate other individuals with the intellect to turn around Leopards,” Ambani stated during his inauguration.
Ingwe concluded the recently ended season in sixth place on the 18-team log, finishing 14 points behind champions Kenya Police FC.
“I just need to leave a legacy, and I want to be remembered as a leader who came in, transformed the club, and elevated it to international standards,” Ambani added, outlining his vision.
AFC Leopards last secured a league title in 1998, a season in which Boniface Ambani was a key forward for the team. He finished that year as one of the top scorers, just behind his elder brother, Fred Ambani.
