Atheists criticise First Lady Rachel Ruto for linking economic success to prayers

Atheists in Kenya society have issued a press statement concerning First Lady Rachel Ruto claims that the Kenya shilling’s appreciation against the dollar as well as Uganda’s agricultural achievements are attributable to prayers.

In a statement on Tuesday April 17, 2024, atheists noted that the first lady should rely on facts and promote rational policies, not magical thinking.

“While faith has an important role to play in Kenya, we must address real-world problems with evidence-based solution,” the statement reads.

The first lady had claimed during a thanksgiving service at KICC on Monday that Ugandans were blessed with fertile lands because of the East African revival that swept the country in 1930s, hence need no fertilizers for their crops to do well.

“In Kenya we see our president talk about fertilizers for our farmers. In Uganda, they don’t use fertilizers. Their land is very fertile and there is enough rain. I came to discover one thing; it is the East African Revival that swept Uganda and some parts of East Africa,” Rachel Ruto said.

The Kenyan atheists went on to say that attributing economic outcomes to prayer or religious movements makes Kenya look unscientific and backward on the global stage.
