Bobi Wine’s documentary wins international award

‘Bobi Wine: The People’s president’ documentary has been recognised as the best feature documentary of the year at the 39th International Documentary Association (IDA) awards.

The documentary features the political journey of Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who is also the National Unity Platform party leader in Uganda.

The award-winning documentary features the atrocities allegedly committed by government agencies against Bobi Wine as a presidential candidate in the 2021 elections.

For instance, it shows how more than 50 NUP supporters were killed during the 2020 riots after the arrest of Bobi Wine in Luuka District during his campaigns.

In addition, the documentary features the role Bobi Wine played in opposing scrapping of the age limit for presidential candidates in 2017, which was later passed by parliament.

“Congratulations to ‘Bobi Wine: The People’s president,’ winner of Best Feature Documentary at the 39th IDA Documentary Awards,” IDA posted on its X account on December 14.

IDA documentary awards recognize both emerging and established documentary characters worldwide. 

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine has noted in a statement that he was pleased with International Documentary Association recognizing his documentary.

Speaking to The Daily Monitor in an earlier interview, Bobi Wine said the documentary was being used as a tool of activism, exposing the government’s criminal acts against Ugandans.

The documentary was directed by Christopher Sharp (American producer) and Moses Bwayo, Ugandan filmmaker based in the US.
