During the dating phase, the effort to look good is apparent, driven by the desire to impress and create a positive impression.

However, in marriage, the focus on personal appearance sometimes shifts.

Women may prioritize looking good for themselves and their friends rather than their husbands.

The change in emphasis from partner to self is a notable shift observed in the transition from dating to married life.

Njugush also touched on the sense of suffocation in marriage.

During dating, there was a feeling of freedom, with individuals coming and going as they pleased.

In marriage, there’s a constant sense of guidance and direction.

Trying to unwind may lead to scenarios where the remote is taken for a preferred soap opera, the kids engage in their activities, and one might feel left alone.

Seeking solace in the company of friends might become a natural response.

Times change significantly upon entering marriage, with new responsibilities emerging, such as having children that were not part of the equation during dating.

With these added responsibilities, priorities naturally shift.

However, he emphasized that the opportunity to have fun and enjoy each other’s company remains a constant.

Romance in marriage

Njugush acknowledged that individuals may carry emotional baggage into marriage.

Each person brings their own set of experiences and challenges.

For instance, childhood trauma in one partner may unintentionally project onto the other.

Understanding and mutual support are crucial as couples navigate the complexities of their shared life.
