Cricket Kenya secures three-season deal to bring Super 90 League to Nairobi

Cricket Kenya has secured a three-season partnership that will bring the fast-paced Super 90 League to Nairobi, beginning with the fourth season in November 2026.

The opening edition in Kenya will be staged at Nairobi Gymkhana Cricket Club, with Seasons Five and Six also scheduled to take place in the capital as part of efforts to grow the sport and strengthen Kenya’s profile as an international cricket destination.

The Super 90 League is coming to Kenya after previous editions were held in India and Sri Lanka. Organisers identified Kenya as the competition’s next destination, citing the country’s cricketing heritage, strong sporting culture, passionate fan base and potential to host major international sporting and entertainment events.

The fourth season will feature six franchise teams playing 18 matches under the competition’s 90-ball format.

The tournament is expected to feature a mix of international cricket legends and former Kenyan stars, giving local fans an opportunity to watch high-profile players in action on home soil.

Each franchise will include two retired Kenyan cricketers, creating an opportunity for former national players to return to the field while sharing the spotlight with established international names.

Cricket Kenya said the tournament comes at a significant time for the sport, with the league expected to help reconnect fans with Kenya’s cricketing heritage while introducing the game to a new generation.

Cricket Kenya Chairman Bhavesh H. Gohil welcomed the partnership, describing it as an opportunity to generate fresh interest in the sport.

“Kenya has a rich cricketing history and a passionate cricket community. We are delighted to welcome Super 90 to Nairobi and especially pleased that this is a three-season partnership,” Gohil said.

He said having international legends play alongside retired Kenyan cricketers would help strengthen the connection between the competition and local supporters while showcasing Kenya’s ability to host major sporting events.

The partnership is also expected to extend beyond the cricket field, with organisers anticipating opportunities for sponsors, broadcasters and other commercial partners.

The tournament could also benefit sectors such as hospitality, tourism, event production and employment, while increased television, digital and social media exposure could give Nairobi and Kenya greater visibility among international sports audiences.

With three consecutive seasons planned for Nairobi, Cricket Kenya hopes the Super 90 League will contribute to the long-term growth of the sport and further position the country as a destination for international cricket.
