Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to construct a mausoleum over the grave of the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno,
Speaking on Friday, August 21, 2026 while visiting Ng’eno’s family in Mogondo, Narok County to pay his respects to the late lawmaker, Gachagua noted, “Tukipata mtu ambaye atadesign vizuri vile mama anataka, mimi mwenyewe nitajenga kwa sababu huyu kiongozi amelala hapa, alikua rafiki wangu wa karibu sana.”
Ngeno’s mother, Mary Temas, appealed to the DCP leader to build a structure that would provide shelter over the grave. She explained that despite previous requests to other leaders to construct such a structure, no action had been taken. She expressed concern that her son’s grave remained exposed five months after his burial.
“Wakati William Ruto na kila mtu walikuja kwa mazishi na mandege na masuti kalikali, walimhahidi mama na familia mambo mengi. Lakini tangu wamzike Johanna Ng’eno hakuna mtu amerudi kumuona mama. Yale yote aliahidiwa hakuna chochote.”
According to Gachagua, the family had been promised assistance but was still struggling, with Ngeno’s mother allegedly facing difficulties even meeting basic needs such as purchasing medicine. He questioned why promises would be made to a grieving mother during the burial of her son if they were not being honoured, terming it “ile uongo inaendelea Jamuhuri ya Kenya.”
“Tumekubaliana na mama. Mimi ni mtoto wake na nitamwamngalia,” Gachagua continued as he vowed to take care of Ngeno’s mother in terms of necessities like electricity, her personal driver, food and medicine.
In addition to all this, Gachagua assured Ngeno’s mother that he and his friends would step in to help settle a 1.8 million hospital bill for her surviving son in hospital. ” I have told Ng’eno;s mother that we will take care of the bill. Together with my friends, we will settle the matter and ensure that her son, who is in hospital, will be taken care of.”
The DCP leader repeated his call for independent, foreign-led investigations into the chopper crash that killed the late Member of Parliament, questioning the vague circumstances of the fatal accident.
Gachagua alleged that the helicopter was supplied with adulterated or unsuitable aviation fuel before its final flight and questioned how the fuel reached the airstrip.
“Hio ajali ya ndege tuko na maswali. ” the DCP leader added, calling for the Kenya Airports Authority to release CCTV footage to identify the driver involved. He also questioned the handling and firing of the officials who, according to his claims, had raised concerns about the fuel.
Gachagua further argued that the Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen should not be involved in the investigation, alleging that there are questions surrounding his relationship with Ng’eno’s death. He called instead for Scotland Yard, the FBI or any other international agency to conduct an independent investigation into the death.
Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, after the helicopter he was travelling in crashed in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. Six people died in the accident.
In-attendance, were several of Rigathi’s political allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu and former Ol Kalau MP Sammy Waweru.
