CS Murkomen, IG Kanja visit Haiti as Kenyan police officers complete mission

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja travelled to Haiti on Monday, April 27, to meet with the remaining Kenyan officers serving under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission as the drawdown of Kenyan police from the country reached its conclusion.

The delegation was received by MSS Contingent Commander Godfrey Otunge and Kenya’s Consular General for Haiti Noor Gabow, among other dignitaries.

They were briefed on the operations of the mission, the progress made in stabilizing Haiti, and the transition to the newly established Gang Suppression Force following a United Nations Security Council resolution passed in 2025.

CS Murkomen took the opportunity to congratulate the officers on their dedication and sacrifice, conveying a personal message of goodwill from President William Ruto as well as the support of all Kenyans back home.

“Our officers in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti served with utmost dedication and raised our Kenyan flag high. Working with Haiti National Police and other MSS officers, they secured critical infrastructure, including the airport, seaport, and major transport corridors. They also restored state presence in previously inaccessible areas and supported the reopening of schools, hospitals, and businesses,” he said.

IG Kanja echoed those sentiments, praising the officers for carrying out their duties with professionalism and discipline.

He encouraged them to bring home the skills and experience gained during the mission and put them to good use in serving the people of Kenya.

National Security Advisor Joseph Boinett also spoke at the event, describing the mission as historic and commending the officers for upholding Kenya’s reputation with honour and integrity while contributing to peace in a foreign nation.

Shortly after the event, 150 officers departed Haiti and headed back to Nairobi, marking the official conclusion of Kenya’s drawdown from the MSS mission.
