The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide detectives have launched investigations into the fatal shooting of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
In a statement, the DCI said detectives from its Homicide Unit, supported by forensic experts, have taken over the investigation and are pursuing all available leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Dr. Mutiso had requested an Uber ride for transport shortly before she sustained fatal gunshot injuries. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
Police officers, assisted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives, responded immediately after the incident was reported. The team secured and processed the scene, collected forensic exhibits for analysis, interviewed witnesses and visited the medical facility where the victim had been taken.
According to the DCI, investigators are following up on all critical leads, including persons of investigative interest, as they work to reconstruct the events leading to the shooting.
“The DCI remains committed to conducting a thorough, impartial and expeditious investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement read in part.
The DCI is appeling to the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
“As the investigation is ongoing, members of the public are urged to exercise restraint and refrain from speculation or the dissemination of unverified information, as this may prejudice the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a renowned Kenyan clinical psychologist and mental health researcher, was shot dead in Nairobi on Wednesday morning July 29, 2026 in what police believe was a targeted attack.
