Fish production stakeholders in Homa Bay County are intensifying efforts to lower the cost of fish by increasing production through investment in technology and skilled manpower.
Led by Victory Farms in Sindo, Suba South Sub-county, the company is expanding its operations by strengthening human capital and adopting modern technology to improve fish farming and increase supply to the market.
The firm has already recruited and trained more than 1,000 employees to support different stages of fish production.
Speaking during the company’s Founder’s Day celebrations in Sindo, Victory Farms CEO Joe Rehmann said the investments are already yielding results, with consumers now able to buy fish for less than three US dollars per kilogram.
He said continued investment in technology and human resources will ensure sustainable production while making fish more affordable.
Chief Development Officer Caesar Asiyo noted that fish feed accounts for more than 70 percent of production costs.
He said producing fish feed locally will significantly reduce production expenses, leading to lower fish prices and improved access for consumers.
