Eliud Kipchoge unveils customised 57-gram timepiece inspired by his Kenyan roots

Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has unveiled a customised timepiece weighing just 57 grams, designed to reflect his illustrious running career and celebrate his Kenyan heritage.

The project, known as Feather, was developed by independent artisan workshop Artisans de Genève following a request by the two-time Olympic marathon champion to personalise his watch in a way that captures key aspects of his life and achievements.

According to the workshop, the pursuit of lightness became the central theme of the project, leading to the use of Titalum, an alloy of titanium and aluminium, to construct the watch case.

The material significantly reduces the timepiece’s overall weight to 57 grams, a design choice that reflects Kipchoge’s long-standing association with efficiency and lightweight performance in distance running.

Beyond its technical features, the customised watch pays tribute to Kipchoge’s Kenyan roots. The country’s flag and warm colours were incorporated into the design, serving as key inspirations throughout the personalisation process.

Kipchoge is widely celebrated for his achievements in marathon running, including becoming the first man to complete the 42.195-kilometre distance in under two hours during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria, in October 2019.

Although the performance was not recognised as an official world record because it was conducted under specially arranged conditions, it remains one of the most significant milestones in athletics history.

The Feather project brings together Kipchoge’s sporting legacy, national identity and the pursuit of precision craftsmanship in a single timepiece.

Artisans de Genève describes itself as an independent workshop that customises watches at the request of their lawful owners, rather than manufacturing or selling watches under its own brand.
