Engin Firat names 28-Man Harambee Stars squad for AFCON 2025 Qualifiers against Cameroon

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has named his provisional 28-man squad for the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Cameroon, scheduled between October 7-15, 2024.

Firat’s selection features a balanced mix of local talents and foreign-based professionals as Kenya prepares for the double-header against Cameroon.

Key local players include Sylvester Owino, Alphonce Omija, Geoffrey Ochieng, Ronney Onyango, and Austine Odhiambo, all from Gor Mahia, while Byrne Omondi from Bandari and Boniface Muchiri from Ulinzi Stars have also been selected. Notably, Tusker FC midfielder David Odoyo earns his first senior call-up, and AFC Leopards’ striker Sydney Lokale makes a return after an extended absence.

Kenya’s captain Michael Olunga, currently in prolific form with Al-Duhail in Qatar, leads the foreign-based contingent. The squad also features Daniel Anyembe, Johnstone Omurwa, Alfred Scriven, Eric Ouma, and Richard Odada.

The Harambee Stars will start their residential camp on October 4, 2024, as they gear up for the first leg against Cameroon on October 11, 2024, at Japoma Stadium in Douala, followed by the second leg on October 14, 2024, at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. The second match will be played behind closed doors.

These fixtures will be pivotal for Kenya’s bid to qualify for the prestigious continental tournament in Morocco.
