Former Governor Waititu blames political rivals in KSh588 million corruption case

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has denied all charges against him in a KSh588 million corruption case.

Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, Testimony Enterprises, its directors and others were charged in 2019 for irregular award of a KSh588,198,328 road tender in Kiambu County.

The former governor was answering to charges of conflict of interest, abuse of office, money laundering, fraudulent acquisition of public property and willful failure to comply with law relating to procurement.

That between July 2018 and March 2019, Waititu allegedly received Ksh.18,410,500 from Testimony Enterprises Ltd. Here, he was reportedly in the capacity of a director at Saika Two estate developers Limited.

However, the prosecution believes the money was siphoned through the county government illegally.

In his defense, Waititu denied all charges, claiming it was a political witchhunt from his rivals.

He was however at pains to substantiate his claims, as he did not have certain documents with him to produce in court.

Consequently, the judge ordered mentioning of the case for June 19 and further directions on the matter will be given on August 5, 2024.
