Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has called for removal of courses, which he termed as ‘not useful’, from training curriculum of tertiary institutions.

Governor Nyaribo, who was speaking during the Gusii Education Stakeholders’ Convention at Kisii University on September 11, 2026, said it is time to introduce development propelling courses to power entrepreneurship.

The conference was hosted by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Hon Julius Migos Ogamba.

“Up to last year, China scrapped over 12,000bcourses and introduced over 10,000 others. What does it mean, we have to eliminate courses which are no longer tenable. We should follow the queue, by scrapping courses which are no longer useful for the job market, ” the Governor said.

While enumerating successes of his Administration in Education, the Governor said constant review of the education system is the only way a country can align academic outcomes to sustainable development.

He said more money has been invested to ease access to vocational training, through scholarships and bursaries.

Governor Nyaribo said his Administration has introduced digital learning in all 408 Early Childhood Development Education Centres across the County, as one of the ways of laying a firm foundation for a tech-driven economy.

On the other hand, the Governor said fortified uji has increased enrollment from 28,000 to 35,000.

The two-two-day meeting focused on moving education outcomes from imparting knowledge to job-focused skills.
