Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has unveiled a new leadership team, signalling what he described as the party’s transition from coalition-building to preparations for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at the party’s Nairobi headquarters on Friday, Musyoka named former Cabinet minister Jamleck Kamau as Wiper’s national chairman, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as deputy party leader-designate, and constitutional lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s inaugural official spokesperson.
The appointments come as opposition parties continue consultations under the United Alternative Government alliance ahead of the 2027 polls.
Addressing the media, Musyoka said the new leadership would strengthen Wiper’s national footprint as the party positions itself to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
“The only conversation Kenyans will have that matters is the one they will have at the ballot,” Musyoka said.
He maintained that opposition unity remained critical, saying no leader had expressed opposition to efforts to field a united front in the next General Election.
“I have not heard anybody say they don’t want a united opposition,” he said, citing his role in helping build previous coalitions, including NASA and Azimio.
Musyoka described Mohamed Ali, the former investigative journalist turned legislator, as a leader known for integrity, while saying the appointment of Ndegwa Njiru would strengthen the party’s public communication and legal engagement.
Beyond the appointments, the Wiper leader launched a fresh attack on President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of undermining electoral integrity, misusing public resources for political mobilisation and failing to address the country’s economic challenges.
He also criticised reports of cash and gift distribution during election campaigns, arguing that voter inducement weakens democratic competition.
Referring to the recently concluded Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, Musyoka claimed the outcome demonstrated that voters could reject monetary influence despite allegations of widespread handouts.
The Wiper leader further questioned remarks attributed to officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) regarding the conduct of the 2027 General Election. He argued that the Constitution clearly sets the election date and only permits postponement in limited circumstances affecting specific polling areas.
Musyoka also dismissed calls to prioritise long-term development frameworks stretching to 2060, saying the country’s immediate focus should be tackling the high cost of living, unemployment and delivering on the objectives of Vision 2030.
The announcement marks Wiper’s latest move as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election, with opposition leaders continuing negotiations aimed at forming a united coalition against President Ruto.
