The High Court has sentenced a KDF soldier Peter Mugure to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of murder of his wife and two children.
In delivering the sentence on Tuesday, the trial judge justice Martin Muya described the offence as “barbaric”, saying the circumstances of the crime warranted the maximum custodial sentence.
The judge said that the accused did not show any remorse in his mitigation.
“I find that the acts committed were barbaric. Bearing in mind that the accused has been in custody, I sentence him to life imprisonment,” the judge ruled.
The court noted that although Mugure had already spent time in remand custody during the trial, the gravity of the offence outweighed any mitigating factors presented in his favour.
Mugure will now serve a life sentence as ordered by the court, bringing to an end the criminal proceedings against him.
Mugure was charged with the murder of his wife and two children in October 2019.
