Kiambu residents raise concerns over alleged grabbing of three-hectare public land

Residents under Kiambu Town Residents Association are preparing to petition Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, seeking urgent intervention to protect a three-hectare parcel of public land that they claim is under threat of illegal acquisition.

According to the residents, the land currently hosts Administration Police (AP) officers’ residential quarters and is strategically located adjacent to the ongoing Kiambu Affordable Housing Project.

The association argues that the parcel serves an important public purpose and should be safeguarded from any attempts of private takeover.

Instead of losing the land, the residents are calling on national and county leaders to initiate a housing project on the site to provide decent and modern accommodation for the AP officers stationed there.

They warn that if the land is taken over, several key public facilities could be demolished, including the Protestant AP Church, the Utawala ECDE Centre, and numerous housing units occupied by AP officers and their families.

The residents are now calling on the county government to take immediate measures to secure the land, clarify its ownership status, and prevent any form of encroachment or alleged land grabbing.

They insist that the public land must remain protected and utilized for the benefit of both security personnel and the wider community.

The petition is expected to be formally presented to Governor Kimani Wamatangi in the coming days as residents seek assurances that the land will remain in the ownership of the  community and government.
