Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that the redevelopment of Kihumbuini Stadium is now more than 70 per cent complete, with the facility expected to be ready in the coming months.
Key components, including the terraces and changing rooms, are already complete, with works now focusing on the turf and shades.
Sakaja said the project is part of a wider programme to upgrade sports facilities across Nairobi and provide residents with modern spaces for sports, recreation and community activities.
He said Kihumbuini Stadium will be particularly important to residents of Kangemi and Westlands, offering young people a better platform to nurture their sporting talent.
The Governor said similar upgrades are underway at Woodley Stadium and City Stadium as the county moves to elevate estate sports facilities across the city.
“Kihumbuini will be ready in a few months. Next year we shall be here to launch it. The same works are ongoing at Woodley Stadium and City Stadium to make sure that we elevate these estate stadiums to the level they need to be,” Sakaja said.
