Kisii: Gang of thieves steal wine from SDA church

The council of religious elders from the Seventh Day Adventist SDA Church in Masaba South, Kisii County on April 11, 2024 reported that thugs broke into the church and stole various church items.

Wine and musical instruments were among the items stolen during the robbery incident at the SDA church.

According to the police report, the incident was reported by Ben Mongeri who is an elder at Motonyoni SDA Church.

Mongeri told the police that suspected criminal broke into the church on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at night.

“They (thieves) smashed their way in through the window before ransacking the vaults and cupboards inside the church and stashing away anything they deemed precious,” Mongeri said.

Mongeri noted that the thugs were most likely looking for church offertory during the robbery but lucky enough the church leaders do not keep cash in church.

Meanwhile, members of the church were shocked after learning about the robbery incident at the church.

“A passerby was drawn to some shiny material at the back of the church which turned out to be window panes that were smashed as the criminals who tried to gain entry,” said Kepha Nyaramba, a church elder.

What the Police say

Police stated that they have launched investigations into the matter, with an aim of arresting the culprits involved in looting from the church.

Masaba South police commander Sammy Gitonga, said that so far no suspect has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Meanwhile, some church members urged pastors to pray for the suspects to repent, stop engaging in criminal activities and return stolen items to the church.
