Lusaka dismisses MCAs’ impeachment threats, says focused on serving final term

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has dismissed threats by a section of Bungoma County Assembly Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to impeach him, insisting that his administration remains focused on delivering development projects and serving residents during his final term in office.

Speaking on Thursday during the launch of the Ndengelwa Resource Centre, Lusaka said political distractions would not derail his commitment to transforming the county through development-oriented programs.

The governor noted that the newly launched modern facility, equipped with internet connectivity, a library, ICT section and other essential amenities, is expected to become a vital hub for learning, innovation, entrepreneurship and community engagement for residents of Bukembe West Ward and neighbouring areas.

“The resource centre marks the beginning of a new chapter of growth and empowerment for the people of Bukembe West. By investing in digital infrastructure and learning facilities, we are creating opportunities for our youth, supporting innovation and strengthening community development,” said Lusaka.

He reiterated that his administration remains committed to improving access to education, technology and youth empowerment initiatives across the county despite the ongoing political tensions within the county government.

Bukembe West MCA Antony Lusenaka (DAP-K) lauded the governor for initiating the project in his ward, terming the resource centre a major boost to local development and youth empowerment.

Lusenaka further declared his support for the governor, distancing himself from any attempts to impeach Lusaka and urging leaders to prioritize service delivery instead of political wrangles.

“We should focus on development and improving the lives of wananchi rather than engaging in endless political fights. This resource centre will greatly benefit our youth and the community at large,” he said.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between the county executive and the county assembly following the impeachment of two County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) by MCAs last month over allegations of incompetence and graft.

The assembly maintained that the removal of the two officials marked the beginning of a wider purge targeting other members of the county executive accused of poor performance and mismanagement.

However, the impeached CECMs successfully challenged their removal in court prompting the Employment and Labour Relations Court to intervene and order their reinstatement.

The court emphasized the need for due process and adherence to constitutional and legal procedures when disciplining public officers, dealing a blow to the county assembly’s move.
