Lusaka rallies Western region to support Ruto’s re-election, points out his development record

Bungoma Governor and President William Ruto’s Western Region Re-election Coordinator, Kenneth Lusaka, has intensified grassroots mobilisation for President Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign, declaring that the President’s development record has firmly anchored support across the Western region.

Addressing residents during a boda boda empowerment forum at Muji in Webuye East Constituency, Lusaka placed President Ruto’s development agenda at the heart of his campaign message, outlining a string of flagship infrastructure, transport, healthcare and economic projects that he said have positioned Bungoma among the biggest beneficiaries of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Lusaka said the ongoing expansion of Matulo Airstrip in Webuye would unlock the county’s economic potential, revealing that the contractor is set to commence construction of a standard passenger terminal alongside the extension of the runway to accommodate commercial flights.

“The expansion of Matulo Airstrip is a game changer for Bungoma. Commercial flights will open up our county to investors, create jobs, stimulate trade and firmly position Bungoma as an emerging economic hub,” Lusaka said.

The governor further lauded the government’s investment in modern market infrastructure, noting that the nearly complete Webuye Modern Market will provide traders with a conducive business environment, increase commercial activity and boost local revenue collection.

He also cited the ongoing facelift of Masinde Muliro Kanduyi Stadium, saying the successful hosting of the recently concluded Western Regional Secondary Schools Games demonstrated the impact of collaboration between the national and county governments in strengthening sports infrastructure.

Lusaka further highlighted other transformative projects spearheaded by President Ruto, including the ongoing dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit-Malaba Highway and the planned extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba through Myanga in Bumula Constituency.

According to the governor, the mega transport projects will significantly lower the cost of doing business, improve regional connectivity and unlock investment opportunities across Western Kenya.

On healthcare, Lusaka announced that KSh100 million has been allocated towards the construction of Sinoko Hospital in Webuye East, describing the project as a major milestone that will enhance access to quality healthcare services for thousands of residents.

Turning to politics, Lusaka dismissed the opposition’s prospects of unseating President Ruto in the 2027 General Election, arguing that persistent divisions within the opposition had weakened its ability to mount a formidable challenge.

“The opposition is already grappling with internal cracks and lacks a united agenda. President Ruto’s scorecard speaks for itself, and Kenyans will judge him based on development, not political rhetoric. Do not be misled by empty promises,” he told the gathering.

The empowerment forum, hosted by Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, attracted a host of national and local leaders led by National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula, President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Members of Parliament and other Kenya Kwanza leaders.

The leaders collectively championed economic empowerment for boda boda operators, contributed funds towards strengthening their savings kitty and used the platform to rally support for President Ruto’s bid for a second term, insisting that continued implementation of the Kenya Kwanza development agenda remains key to accelerating economic transformation in Bungoma and the wider Western region.
