Police in Nyali Constituency, Mombasa County, are investigating an incident where a man turned on his family, hacking his wife and child to death.

Richard Matiko, who lives in Shauri Yako Village with his wife, is said to have gone bersek at around 8 am Friday, September 25, attacked and killed his wife and one of their young children.

According to a report filed at Nyali Police Station by Allan Wasike, a Community Health Promoter, the man was triggered by an unknown family conflict.

“After the incident, the suspect allegedly placed the body of the child in a pit latrine,” the report reads in part. “He reportedly attempted to dispose of the wife’s body in the same manner but was unable to do so due to its weight.”

The couple’s 14-year-old child, a Grade 9 student at Pentrose School, managed to escape from the scene despite sustaining injuries.

“He was assisted by a Good Samaritan and rushed to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention,” the report adds.

Meanwhile, Matiko surrendered himself to Nyali Police Station shortly after committing the murders.

The bodies have since been removed to Coast General Hosptal mortuary for preservation and further procedures.
