The Ministry of Defence has been recognised as the best-performing ministry in the 2024/2025 Performance Contracting Evaluation, a milestone attributed to its effective implementation of government programmes and commitment to quality public service delivery.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya announced the achievement in a statement shared on her X account after receiving the award from President William Ruto during the inaugural National Productivity and Performance Conference held at the Kenya School of Government.
Tuya said she received the award alongside Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru and Kenya Defence Forces Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics, Major General Peter Limo.
“This recognition affirms the Ministry of Defence’s outstanding performance in advancing Government priorities through strengthened institutional efficiency, enhanced service delivery, accountability, and the institutionalisation of a results-based approach under the national performance contracting and productivity framework,” she said.
The CS described the award as a testament to the dedication and professionalism of both military personnel and civilian staff serving under the ministry.
“It is a timely affirmation of the patriotism, dedication, discipline and professionalism of the men and women of the Kenya Defence Forces, and civilian staff of the Ministry, who serve alongside them, in advancing the Ministry’s mandate,” Tuya stated.
She added that the commitment of the staff has continued to promote institutional excellence, improve operational preparedness and ensure efficient service delivery to Kenyans.
The conference, organised by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), was held under the theme “Productivity for Fiscal Sustainability and Efficient Service Delivery.”
It brought together senior government officials, leaders from public institutions and other stakeholders to discuss ways of enhancing productivity across the public sector.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to continuous improvement and to deepening a culture of productivity, performance, discipline and innovation across the Ministry of Defence in service to our nation,” Tuya said.
Several leaders attended the event, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Council of Governors Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi, SRC Chairperson Sammy Chepkwony and Public Service Commission Chairperson Francis Meja.
