Kabuchai Member of Parliament (MP) Majimbo Kalasinga has said the Linda Mwananchi Movement has already settled on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 general election, insisting there is no debate within the movement over who should lead its bid for the state house.

Kalasinga said Sifuna had emerged as the movement’s preferred presidential candidate, dismissing the possibility of an internal contest even as questions over the movement’s leadership and political direction continue to emerge ahead of the 2027 polls.

The MP’s remarks came a day after Siaya Governor and one of the Linda Mwananchi principals, James Orengo declared himself a presidential candidate in the coming elections, setting the stage for what could develop into a contest within the opposition alliance.

Speaking in his constituency during development tours, where he handed over a Sh12 million bus to St Kizito Mukhweya Girls High School and commissioned modern classrooms at Busakala, Kalasinga dismissed Orengo’s declaration, saying the question of who will carry the Linda Mwananchi presidential ticket had already been settled.

“There will be no debate and discussions on who will be the Linda Mwananchi Presidential aspirant. That deal is done. Sifuna is the man of the moment,” Kalasinga affirmed.

Kalasinga said the movement had already embarked on a countrywide mobilization campaign and claimed that its message had received support from different parts of the country.

He cited visits to Meru, Narok, Kisumu, Kisii and Mombasa, saying the reception demonstrated growing support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.

“We have gone to Meru, Narok, Kisumu, Kisii, Mombasa, we have gone everywhere. Kenyans are saying ‘Sisi ni Sifuna’. Therefore, the answer is available. We are not going to contradict and there is no meeting that shall be held. The Presidential candidate for Linda Mwananchi is Edwin Sifuna,” he said.

The MP further accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of mounting attacks against the movement, arguing that the pressure was an indication that Linda Mwananchi had become a significant political force ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Linda Mwananchi brigade is under attack in every corner because you cannot attack a weak person. We believe that they are attacking us because we are strong. This is the movement that is going to produce the sixth President of the republic,” he said.

Kalasinga also took issue with the ongoing efforts to register Linda Mwananchi as a political party, calling on the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to allow the movement to retain the name under which it has built its political identity.

He argued that the name Linda Mwananchi had become a political brand associated with the movement and should therefore be formally recognized.

“We must be given our name legally because you cannot say the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) can tell us that Linda Mwananchi was registered in 2024,” he argued.

“Linda Mwananchi is our brand. We need it like yesterday,” he added.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the registration of the movement as a political party, Kalasinga said this would not prevent Sifuna from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

He claimed that several existing political parties were ready to provide a platform for Sifuna should Linda Mwananchi fail to secure registration under its preferred name.

“Don’t think that if you block Linda Mwananchi from registering a party you would have blocked Sifuna from running. Sifuna has four political parties ready, waiting for him to pick one but Linda Mwananchi we want because it’s our brand,” Kalasinga stated.

The MP said the movement’s objective is to take power in 2027 and run the country within the rule of law.

Kalasinga said respect for the rule of law would be central to their administration, arguing that it would help address corruption, human rights violations and other challenges facing the country.

“You cannot have an agenda if you don’t respect the rule of law. Our main agenda is to lead by the rule of law. When you lead by the rule of law there will be no corruption, no shooting the legs of Gen-Zs,” he said.

The MP, however, said his immediate focus remained on development in Kabuchai Constituency, particularly improving education infrastructure and supporting learners.

During his development tour, he handed over a Sh12 million school bus at St Kizito Mukhweya Girls High School and commissioned modern classrooms at Busakala as part of efforts to improve the learning environment in the constituency.

On Bungoma gubernatorial race, Kalasinga drummed up support for Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi as his preferred candidate to succeed Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

He described Wanyonyi as a strong contender for the Bungoma governor’s seat as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
