The Government of Kenya has condemned the escalating missile and drone attacks targeting infrastructure, civilians and sacred places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, calling for an immediate cessation of the growing hostilities.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Kenya said attacks targeting civilians, civilian infrastructure and places of worship are contrary to international humanitarian law and threaten regional stability and security.

The government also expressed concern over hostile activities affecting safe maritime trade in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, warning that disruptions and threats to freedom of navigation could have wider implications for regional and global economic stability, as well as energy security.

Kenya called for full respect for international law and the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen and the Houthis, including obligations relating to the arms embargo.

The government further called for unimpeded maritime waterways and an end to attacks targeting merchant and commercial vessels.

“Kenya remains committed to working with the international community to safeguard maritime security, protect legitimate trade, and promote international peace and stability,” the ministry said.

Kenya also reaffirmed its long-standing position that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states are protected under the United Nations Charter.

The government said it stands in solidarity with Saudi Arabia in protecting its people, the Two Holy Mosques and pilgrims travelling to the Kingdom, including Kenyan citizens.

Kenya also expressed concern over the safety of its nationals living and working in Saudi Arabia.

The government called on all parties to exercise restraint and de-escalate the situation while reiterating its support for a Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned political settlement under the auspices of the United Nations.

According to the ministry, Kenya considers such a settlement the only durable path to peace and reaffirmed its commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The Kenyan government said it remains committed to strengthening the longstanding relations, bonds of friendship and cooperation between Kenya and Saudi Arabia.
