The Kenya Kwanza Administration has made significant strides in combating security threats across the country, with recent surveys indicating a notable decline in crime rates, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.
“In Kerio Valley, we have successfully tackled banditry and recovered over 2,000 illegal firearms through the ongoing disarmament programme,” Murkomen stated, adding that the government has intensified operations against terrorism, criminal gangs, and the fight against drug and substance abuse.
He said these gains have been confirmed by the Economic Survey released this week which indicated crime had dropped by 10%.
Despite these gains, the CS acknowledged isolated incidents of insecurity in parts of the country, including recent disputes along the Kitui–Garissa and Kitui–Tana River County border areas.
The CS assured that the government is actively working to resolve the conflicts.
“We have deployed additional security personnel and continue to engage local leaders and communities to collaborate in delivering a lasting solution to these disputes,” he said.
Murkomen was speaking in Metkei, Elgeyo Marakwet County, during a Community Empowerment Initiative hosted by the County MP Caroline Ngelechei.
The CS also cautioned residents in the area and Kenyans at large to adhere to weather advisories during the ongoing rainy season.
