Suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has come out to defend his administration against allegations surrounding insurance arrangements during the CHAN 2025 tournament.
During a press conference on Saturday, April 25 morning at the FKF Headquaters in Kasarani, Nairobi, Hussein took time to highlight significant milestones he says his administration has achieved in just 15 months in office.
The achievements, listed by Hussein, include the Harambee Stars’ participation in the FIFA Series finals in March 2026, the Harambee Starlets’ qualification for WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, and FIFA lifting its restrictions against Kenya following successful fiscal reforms.
He also noted President William Ruto receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award at the CAF Awards for Kenya’s successful hosting of CHAN, ongoing preparations for Kenya’s co-hosting of AFCON 2027, FIFA approval for a Football Technical Centre in Machakos, and the approval of two FIFA Arena pitches with plans to expand to 30 facilities nationwide.
On the insurance controversy, Hussein stated that the insurance cover for CHAN 2025 was procured by CAF under the Host Agreement, not by himself or FKF, and that no money was transferred by FKF to any insurance company for the tournament.
“The required insurance cover for CHAN 2025 was procured by CAF, not myself, and was duly secured and maintained throughout the tournament,” he stated, adding that there was no loss of funds whatsoever in relation to the insurance cover.
Hussein accused his critics of running a deliberate smear campaign designed to collapse the institution and damage his reputation.
He described the allegations as revenge for the firm positions he has taken since taking office.
“When you fight corruption, it fights back. I was clear that I shall not tolerate mediocrity and corruption at the federation,” he said, adding that the strategy to keep him busy responding to false allegations on a daily basis will not work.
He said he is willing to cooperate with any investigative agencies if required.
Hussein made it clear that he will no longer be responding to what he described as sponsored press reports and social media falsehoods.
On governance, Hussein noted that all formal correspondence and administrative processes within FKF are handled through the Office of the General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, who also serves as the Accounting Officer.
