Over 1,000 Kenyans rally in support of older persons at second Run 4 Seniors

Nairobi, Kenya, 18 July 2026 — More than 1,000 registered participants gathered at Karura Forest for the second edition of Run 4 Seniors, demonstrating growing national support for the welfare and dignity of older persons in Kenya.

The strong turnout reflected a growing movement of individuals, families, corporate organisations and community groups rallying behind the call to ensure that Kenya’s senior citizens age with dignity and receive the care and support they deserve.

The annual charity run raises funds and awareness for programmes that provide food, healthcare and social support to vulnerable older persons, particularly in Isiolo and Kakamega counties.

Speaking during the event, Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril said the growing participation demonstrated an increasing recognition that supporting older persons is a shared societal responsibility requiring collaboration among individuals, corporate organisations, government institutions and development partners.

“Today’s turnout is a powerful statement that Kenyans are choosing to stand with our senior citizens. It demonstrates that the conversation around the welfare of older persons is gaining momentum,” said Jibril.

“Every runner here is helping to restore dignity and hope to older persons who have contributed immensely to our society and deserve to age with care, respect and dignity,” he added.

Run 4 Seniors Chairman Moses Mwangi commended the participants, sponsors and partners for embracing the cause and helping to transform the run into one of Kenya’s fastest-growing charity sporting events.

“We are grateful to all the participants who came out to support this important cause. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the event’s sponsors and partners, whose support has enabled the initiative to expand its impact and encouraged more organisations to invest in programmes that improve the lives of Kenya’s ageing population,” said Mwangi.

He added, “Our seniors gave their lives building the Kenya-and the communities we all enjoy today. the very least we can do is make sure they are fed, cared for and treated with the dignity they deserve.”

This year’s event featured 5km, 10km and 15km race categories, attracting participants of all ages, including families, corporate teams, fitness enthusiasts and community groups united by a shared commitment to promoting healthy ageing and social inclusion.

The event’s key sponsors also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of older persons.

Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said the bank’s support extended beyond fundraising to advocating for greater attention to the needs of older persons.

“Beyond fundraising, Run 4 Seniors continues to advocate for greater attention to the needs of older persons, including access to healthcare, nutrition, psychosocial support and sustainable livelihoods. These causes are close to our hearts, and we will continue supporting initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact,” said Okulo.
