Medical students from Mount Kenya University visited the Oncology Laboratory and Pharmacy units at The Texas Cancer Centre, Nairobi, as part of an academic tour aimed at strengthening their practical understanding of cancer diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive patient care.
The visit offered the students valuable first-hand exposure to the organisation and management of specialised oncology services, with insights into daily operations, clinical workflows, laboratory processes, pharmaceutical management and interdepartmental coordination.
They also gained a deeper appreciation of the critical role played by oncology laboratories and specialised pharmacy services in supporting accurate cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, safe medication management and effective patient care.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Elvis Obura, Pharmacist at Texas Cancer Centre, underscored the importance of knowledge exchange, practical learning and professional collaboration in advancing cancer care.
“We are grateful for the knowledge shared, the practical insights gained and the opportunity to engage with the students. Learning, collaboration and continuous improvement remain central to our values as we strive to advance cancer care in Kenya and beyond,” said Dr. Obura.
At Texas Cancer Centre, we remain committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals through practical learning, knowledge exchange and strategic academic partnerships. Together, we are building knowledge, strengthening clinical capacity and contributing to the future of cancer care in Kenya and beyond.
