Two suspects have been arrested after police recovered 200 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of KSh6 million during an intelligence-led operation in Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County.
In a statement shared on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was carried out in the Thalatha Meli area following intelligence reports on suspected drug trafficking activities.
According to the police, officers raided a residential house where the two suspects were found before conducting a thorough search of the premises.
“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of five gunny bags containing dry plant material suspected to be cannabis,” the NPS said.
The recovered substance was weighed and established to have a total weight of 200 kilograms, with an estimated street value of KSh6 million.
The suspects were arrested and taken to Malindi Police Station alongside the recovered exhibits. They remain in police custody pending the completion of investigations and their arraignment in court.
“The two suspects were arrested and, together with the recovered exhibits, escorted to Malindi Police Station, where they remain in custody pending further investigations and subsequent arraignment in court,” the statement added.
The National Police Service praised members of the public for providing information that contributed to the successful operation, noting that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
The service further urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or its anonymous reporting channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to tackling the illegal drug trade, the NPS said it remains focused on dismantling networks involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs across the country.
“The National Police Service remains resolute in its commitment to combating the trafficking and distribution of narcotic drugs and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice,” the statement said.
