The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on theft and burglary networks following the recovery of more stolen items in separate operations conducted in Nakuru and Vihiga counties.
In a statement shared on its official X account on May 1, 2026, the police detailed how swift action by officers led to the recovery of assorted stolen goods believed to be linked to recent break-ins, as authorities widen investigations into criminal networks operating across different parts of the country.
According to the statement, officers from Free Area Police Post in Nakuru were on routine night foot patrol in Naka Estate at around 3:00 a.m. on April 30 when they spotted two suspicious individuals.
Their movements prompted officers to track them, leading to the discovery of a cache of assorted items hidden within the area.
“What began as a routine night patrol for officers from Free Area Police Post unfolded into a recovery operation, reinforcing the efforts of the National Police Service to dismantle theft networks,” the police said.
Preliminary investigations established that the recovered items had been stolen from a nearby gas shop following a break-in.
Police contacted the shop owner, who positively identified the recovered goods as part of the stolen property.
Authorities confirmed that all recovered items have been secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
In a separate operation in Vihiga County, police acted on information from members of the public regarding a suspect believed to be in possession of stolen electronic goods in the Mudete area.
A search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of assorted electronics suspected to have been stolen.
Investigators now believe the suspect could be connected to a larger criminal syndicate involved in shop break-ins and burglary incidents across multiple regions.
“Further inquiries suggest that the suspect may be linked to a wider network of criminals involved in shop break-ins and burglary incidents across multiple regions,” the statement added.
The National Police Service said the recovered electronics have been documented, inventoried, and securely held at a police station pending further investigations.
Police have reiterated their commitment to sustaining the nationwide crackdown on theft and burglary, noting that coordinated operations, intelligence gathering, and public cooperation remain central to efforts aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety.
